Andrea Catzel (soprano) & Thomas Rajna (piano)
Two young pilgrims are on their way to Rome. They want the Pope to marry them, because they are cousins. The boy wears an oil-cloth cap, the pretty girl a velvet hat. The Pope asks them their names; they tell him they are Pedro and Ana. The Pope asks them if they have sinned together; she replies that Pedro gave her but one kiss. Then the Pope comes forward from his quarters to declare: "Marry your pilgrim quickly, for he is a saint!". The bells of Rome join in a great peal, because the little pilgrims are getting married. Two kisses to a step make the return journey shorter.
